Hazel Powell, 25 September 1997, interviewed by Craig Fees
Craig Fees writes:
Hazel Powell died at the beginning of March, 2016. Her parents were part of a British progressive movement between the two World Wars which included Kibbo Kift (and ultimately the Planned Environment Therapy Trust). I will let Hazel herself tell her story, but she was born in 1931, started at Forest School in 1936, and then went to Summerhill School where she was taught by A.S. Neill, and enjoyed the school's evacuation to Wales during the Second World War.
Hazel's character and generosity are indicated by the patience and focus with which she managed the interview through my then-undiagnosed and unanticipated asthmatic cough; and by the care she took, just before she died, to approach the Archive, and to ensure the copyright forms were completed so that her interview could be shared with others.
