Jonathan Reinarz is (in 2011) Reader in the History of Medicine and Director of the History of Medicine Unit at the University of Birmingham. His research has focused on the history of hospitals and medical education, with a particular interest in the history of medical specialisation, including paediatrics. His recent publications include Health Care in Birmingham: a history of the Birmingham teaching hospitals, 1779-1939 (Boydell, 2009) and Permeable Walls: historical perspectives on hospital and asylum visiting (Rodopi, 2009), which was edited with Graham Mooney (Johns Hopkins).
