Robert Hinshelwood, M.D.

Dr. R.D. Hinshelwood trained at University College Hospital Medical School - MB,BS 1965; became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists 1990; and a Fellow of the College 1996. He trained as psycho-analyst at the British Psycho-Analytical Society, qualifying in 1976.
He worked during the 1970s at the Marlborough Day Hospital, a therapeutic community, and during the 1980s ran a Department of Psychotherapy in the NHS.
From 1993-1997 he was Clinical Director of the Cassel Hospital, one of the first therapeutic communities, and a place where the practice was developed.
In 1997 he was appointed Professor in the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex.
He has a number of publications including the books:
