Barns Centre and the Planned Environment Therapy Trust

Barns Conference & Study Centre is administered by and helps to fund a small Charitable Trust – The Planned Environment Therapy Trust.

PETT was founded in 1966 to promote effective treatment for children and adults with emotional and psychological disorders. It encourages research, discussion and training in a variety of therapeutic approaches, particularly those known as “therapeutic communities”.

Since 1966, the Trust has produced publications, run conferences and provided grants to individuals for training or research projects in planned environment therapy.

The Trust maintains a unique and expanding Archive collection of papers, documents and other materials relevant to the field of therapeutic care. It has a specialist Research Library which is open to students, historians and researchers. An Endowment Fund has been set up to support both these enterprises.

In 2003 the Trust expanded its residential facilities by building Barns House, and creating Barns Conference and Study Centre.

Association of Therapeutic Communities

Barns Centre also provides the administrative offices for the Association of Therapeutic Communities. Telephone 01242 620077
